HBM welcomes summer intern, Shyam Kannan!

Recently, we had the opportunity to spend some time learning more from Shyam Kannan, HBM’s new Summer Intern. This summer Shyam will be working within our Corporate Development team and focusing on learning our business and our acquisition strategy.

What school do you attend and what is your major? Outside of classes, are you involved in any school activities – if yes, what?

I go to Truman State University, and I am pursuing a major in Finance with a minor in Computer Science. Outside of classes, I am involved in the Bulldog Student Investment Fund, an organization that invests an endowment provided by Alumni in Equities following a value investing philosophy. I served as the Vice President of Portfolio Management this past school year. I am also in the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, and I serve as the VP of Internal Operations on the Interfraternal Council, which governs the fraternal side of Greek Life.

What did you find appealing about HBM’s summer internship?

What attracted me to HBM’s summer internship was the opportunity to apply what I learned from my time in the Bulldog Student Investment Fund and my Finance coursework in a real-world setting. HBM provides a golden opportunity to refine my valuation and market research skills to meet and hopefully exceed to industry standards.

What will you be focusing on this summer? Any key priorities?

I will be supporting ongoing and upcoming deals as my primary focus. I am also hoping to develop macros and any automate any process if there is an opportunity to do so. My other focus is to become proficient in HBM’s decision-making and research processes, so I will be taking advantage of opportunities to practice and learn.

When you are not at work/school how do you spend your free time?

I like to listen to podcasts, lift weights, meditate, and spend time with friends and family.

Thanks, Shyam, for taking the time with us to share more about your background. We’re excited to have Shyam on board this summer!
