The Harry B. Mathews Scholarship Program supports the college-ready children of our portfolio companies’ employees. This program and our ongoing investment in education has been a time-honored tradition for more than 20 years. On July 26th, we honored this year’s scholarship awardees with an annual luncheon, which was also attended by the students’ parents and representatives from each business leadership team. This year’s recipients have parents employed at Mississippi Lime and Schafer Industries.
The program invites children of portfolio company employees to apply for an HBM sponsored scholarship. The students’ anonymous credentials are evaluated by an employee committee, which chooses the scholarship awardees based on the students’ GPA, standardized test scores and submitted essays. HBM’s program has two scholarship categories: four-year scholarships of $5,000 per year, and two-year scholarships of $2,500 per year. All six of this year’s recipients received the $5,000-per-year award.
As always, the applications were impressive, and this year’s recipients had outstanding credentials. This group will major in Engineering, Architecture, Accounting, Speech Pathology, Chemistry, and Elementary Education and attend a variety of universities in Missouri and Indiana.
This scholarship program reflects our commitment to investing in our employees and their families, we are proud of all the students who have been awarded scholarships over the years and are excited to hear more about this years’ scholarship recipient’s successes over the next four years.
